BODY PIERCING FAQ

Our clients often ask questions about getting a body piercing. We are of the opinion, “The only silly question is the one you don’t ask”. Here in our FAQ section are a few of the most common questions we hear. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact us for more information.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Our most popular piercings start at about $. Prices include the piercing, jewelry, and other materials used during the procedure. The cost will vary with the piercing procedure and the jewelry required. Generally, expect a higher cost for a more difficult procedure.

Keep in mind that you get what you pay for, so don’t choose your Piercing Professional based solely on price, but if you are price shopping, ask about our “Best Price Guarantee.” You don’t want your body piercer to be cutting corners in areas like jewelry quality, sterilization, and other safety procedures.

Tipping is not required but always appreciated.

DOES IT HURT?

Yes. Sure, but it probably won’t be nearly as bad as you think. Most people will tell you, “No, not really.” It’s usually more like a pinching, pressure, or perhaps a burning or stinging sensation, and is extremely brief. Some piercing locations may be slightly more sensitive than others, but the fact is, our piercings are performed skillfully, quickly and gently.

We understand clients may gather tension and apprehension before their piercing, which can be worse than the sensation experienced during the actual piercing.  We pierce areas all over the body, all day, every day, and what we hear most often is, “That’s it, that’s what I was so worried about, that was nothing, and it didn’t hurt at all!” It’s too quick to be all that bad, and you will leave with a great piercing saying “Wow that really was kind of fun!”

WILL IT LEAVE A SCAR?

The short answer is yes. Exactly how much of a scar however, will often depend on how well the person follows the suggested aftercare. Taking care of a piercing properly, installing the appropriate size jewelry once any swelling subsides and the piercing is healed, not wearing low-quality jewelry, and coming in to see us if you ever have any issues will help minimize your risks of scaring.

DO YOU PIERCE... EVERYTHING?

Not quite! We currently do not offer genital piercings, dermals, or tongue piercings, and some others too. Please feel free to call to get the most up to date offerings!

HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO GET PIERCED?

You must be eighteen to get a piercing. We may do a limited number of basic piercings on a Minor. Please contact our body piercing specialist about our ID and Minor Piercing Policy for a detailed explanation.

DO I NEED TO BRING IN ANYTHING TO GET PIERCED?

Check to ensure you have government-issued picture ID, driver’s license, or passport. If you’re not sure if the identification you have is acceptable, you can always call and ask. If you’re under 18 then your parent/legal guardian must be present, provide identification, and show parental/guardianship.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE COMING IN TO GET PIERCED?

  • Drink lots of water and try to be well rested.

  • Please don’t drink alcohol before coming in to get a new piercing. Alcohol will thin your blood.

  • If you feel like you’re getting sick, or are outright sick, please wait until you’re completely better to get pierced. Illness may hinder your body’s healing process.

  • Some people have medical conditions which require a doctor’s note beforehand. If you think this may apply to you, please call the studio ahead of time to verify whether your condition requires a physician’s authorization form.

WHAT IS NORMAL FOR A BODY PIERCING?

  • Initially: some bleeding, localized swelling, tenderness, or bruising.

  • During healing: some discoloration, itching, secretion of fluid that will become crusty on the jewelry. The tissue may tighten around the jewelry as it heals.

  • Once healed: the jewelry may not move freely in the piercing; DO NOT force it. If you fail to include cleaning your piercing as a part of your daily hygiene routine, normal but concerning bodily secretions may accumulate.

  • A piercing may seem healed before healing is complete. This is because piercings heal from the outside in, and although it feels healed the tissue remains fragile on the inside. BE PATIENT, and keep cleaning throughout the entire healing period.

  • Even healed piercings can shrink or close in minutes after having been there for years! This varies from person to person; if you like your piercing, leave the jewelry in place.

WHAT DO I DO AFTER MY VISIT?

  • Wash your hands prior to touching the piercing; leave it alone except when cleaning. It is not necessary to rotate the jewelry while healing except possibly during cleaning.

  • Stay healthy. Get enough sleep and eat a nutritious diet. The healthier your lifestyle, the easier it will be for your piercing to heal. Exercise during healing is fine, just “listen” to your body.

  • Make sure your bedding is kept clean and changed regularly. Wear clean, comfortable breathable clothing that protects your piercing while sleeping.

  • Showering is safer than taking a bath, because bathtubs tend to harbor bacteria. If you would like to take a bath, clean the tub well before each use.
